In any case, I want to clarify my question, or Strasser's point:
If we believe that the outer hoof wall is curved (due to whatever mechanism, wear or because the horn tubules grow inward somehow) the question IS:
Where along that curved hoof wall did the wild horse research people measure the angle?
On a curved surface, it is not clear where to exactly place the ruler so that one can measure unequivocally the angle. You can see how different one could place the line along the curved hoof wall on my attached picture. The red line is the one as Strasser drew it, and the blue line the one that potentially could have been used by Jamie Jackson. There is a a large difference in the angle that is deducted from that. I think probably the correct line to use would be the one of the inner hoof wall (yellow) but even in this case, the angle of the coffin bone (green line) is NOT parallel to that yellow line. The outer surface of the coffin bone is rounded too, so the same problem applies. I measured the angle of the green line, it is 38 degrees to the ground. What this suggests is that the coffin bone angle cannot be deducted from the hoof wall angle in any way, in a mustang, with a curved wall. In addition, the coffin bone in the mustang hoof could even has a small ski tip suggesting that this horse's hoof angle may still be too steep.
